Mobile Click-To-Call from Google AdWords

In early 2010 Google launched an innovative new program where advertisers can include a “click-to-call” number in their AdWords program. Opting into the system is as easy as the following steps:

Step 1.
Within your Adwords account, select a campaign and enable your local business listing. You can do this by linking to your existing local business account, or simply add a new business listing right in the account.

Step 2.
Make sure you have enabled your ads to show on mobile devices (like the iphone or blackberry). To see how this is done, see our previous post here: or look at the image below:

Here is a video direct from Big G.

What makes this service AMAZING is the fact that almost any business, prefers phone call leads to email/form based leads. Local business like restaurants, hardware stores etc love when the phone rings because it gives an opportunity to understand the customers needs and find the right solution. There is also great up-sell opportunity over the phone.

Phone call clicks are charged the same way the advertiser pays per click. Meaning, whatever the existing average cost per click is on your ads – is the same as the call. I expect to see Google expand this program further as the invest heavily in the mobile space this year. It would make sense that Google might get into charging more per call – or adding phone call clicks to the conversion tracking metrics. This would then allow them to include these stats in the minimum amount of conversions needed for an advertiser to opt into the conversion optimizer program.

Google Introduces Network Targeting within Mobile PPC

If your and AdWords advertiser, you many know that Google PPC ads can be placed on mobile web browsers. When new campaigns and accounts are being set-up, advertising to mobile devices is automatically included in the default settings in addition to computers.

To target specifically to mobile browsers and devices, simply log into your account and access the campaign you want to change. Within that campaigns settings, look for the “Networks, devices and extensions” and select “edit”

You should see this:

Next, select “Let me Choose” and un-check the “Desktop and Laptop computers” while keeping the “mobile” radio button selected.

The latest upgrade Google has made allows advertisers to target to specific mobile carriers and mobile platforms (iphone, Andriod, PalmOS etc). This can be useful for advertisers who have applications that are specific to the iphone mobile platform and need to target only to this platform.
